Thom is an umpire and a programmer, devoted husband and father of two, bicycling Seattle resident and beer drinker. He plays war games and role playing games, both face to face and through email. If he's not doing any of those things on a given weekend, you might find him travelling the North American continent or reading a book.

My GPS is the trusty Garmin iQue 3600 (with Palm OS 5.2.1!) and yes, that's a little hula Lilo on the dashboard of my 2001 Focus Wagon. My plan is to try to visit hashes between 3 and 5, and I nearly always have a game or two with me. If I can only get close, I use Chris Michels page to tell me just how close.

Known Geohashers

Geohashers I've met face to face. If I've got you wrong, please correct!

Marcy, SparroHawc, Nukewaste, Jack, Sparkamusprime, SalusaSecondus, Leoger, AaronStJ, Girlstyle, Christian, Mike, Andrew, HarlequinsDad, Harlequin, and Wnvoss.

Geohashers whose meeting with me contained a mis-matched time coordinate

Denouement, Stalefries, Robyn, Wade and Litho.

Wiki

Planned changes in italics

  • merged the Active and Inactive graticules to become the page All Graticules
  • set Active or Inactive on all graticules linked from that page.
  • removed state and province abbreviations on North American graticules.
  • helped set up and edit the United States category (and others) for North America
  • cleaned up double redirects; pruned several unused redirects; general cleanup
  • added to templates and ribbons
  • search for expedition pages lacking Category:Expeditions and add same, or Category:Expedition Planning for expeditions not attempted.
If you actually attempted an expedition, please log your story and change the category!
  • read every expedition page(!) and add a category for success or failure, along with failure type.
If I get this wrong on your expedition page, please change it!
  • dig through user pages to find expeditions and create pages for them.
  • dig through all Graticule pages to uncover hidden expeditions (Ninjas!).
  • through inspection of Category:Expeditions, determine first geohash in each graticule.
  • using Category:Expeditions data, automatically track expeditions, graticules with the most expeditions, etc.

Purchases

Besides vehicle fuel and the occasionally ferry fare, I have made a few purchases related to geohashing. They are

  • Thermometer - digital readout, in case "cold" is ever an option.
  • Machete - official army variety. I don't want Mother Nature to stop me from a conscutive geohash this weekend.
  • Sidewalk chalk - for those urban geohashes, something to mark the location and occasion.

No, I don't have a portable boat yet. I do have some water shoes, in case the hash is near the shore.
