Arting
I'm aware that you're the person to talk to re: creating magical pieces of artwork for templates. I just thought if I'd drop you a line about maybe creating some for the Calendar Girl acheivement if I asked really nicely. Regards, UnwiseOwl 23:21, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Your postcard artwork is especially nice. I like how simple and recognizable the small icon is, and the extra details telling the whole story, still simply, in the large version. -Robyn 10:20, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Can you please provide a copy of your incredible 5-Continent artwork in an appropriate for T-shirts? -Robyn 02:12, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Heidelberg
Hey there,
I live near Heidelberg as well. If you feel like geohashing with me some time, just drop me a line :) Fivetonsofflax 16:40, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'll walk to the hashpoint today as well, but I probably won't start before 8:00 pm and get there at about 8:30. You'll probably be there earlier, but I just thought I'd let you know, just in case. Fivetonsofflax 11:06, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Exams
Congrats! --joannac 08:28, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you! Preparing for it really affected my life (and, secondarily, my ability to go hashing) over the course of the last months. --ilpadre 08:33, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Icon Request
Do you have time to make icons for Geohashing Day ribbons? -Robyn 06:00, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- The request comes a few days late, since I'm busy with final preparations for my vacation now. I'm sorry. --ilpadre 06:24, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply. Enjoy your vacation. -Robyn 07:02, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Are you in Heidelberg these days? If so, Geohashing Day Meetup in Eppelheim! Koepfel talk 22:28, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
What Will You Make It out of?
I love your goal: Leave a hashmark big and durable enough that it can be seen from space. Then wait for the next Google Earth imagery update. !
Also I received your not-hashcard on Geohashing Day! It was in my mailbox, sticking out, when I got home from the expedition. I knew it was a hashcard immediately from the German handwriting. Thank you! -Robyn 18:22, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- Such a hashmark would have to cover at least five by five meters. Since geohashing discourages leaving anything permanent that doesn't belong to the area, I'd have to use nearby materials: stones, trunks and the like. It's not very likely that a hashpoint falls on a place that is neither a field, densely populated, or otherwise cared for. Forest isn't good either (foliage - I'd have to hope for Google using fall/winter imagery). Leaving something awesome like the Marree Man is utterly impossible here. Geohashers in other graticules/parts of the world may have better chances (please try!). I'll have to wait for the right moment and then be ready. --ilpadre 19:25, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Btw, space is something different than google maps/earth - the pictures with useful resolution are no satellite images but taken from airplanes. But indeed, the whole point will be very difficult - I hardly can think of a place in Germany where it would be possible to leave such a mark and which is neither in use nor a nature reserve nor inaccessible. That project probably has to be moved to the empty lands of America or Australia. The other problem is that the updates are usually very rare - In many areas, Google hasn't ever updated the high resolution pictures since they were published. I hardly collect a tracklog on a decent hashing trip that doesn't hit some part which would be impossible judging by the aerials. Nevertheless, leaving a durable hashmark of several metres of size would be awesome. --Ekorren 21:49, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Visiting 49 8
I did not reach the coordinates yesterday, but was not disappointed either. Thanks for your well wishes. :) I'm in Mannheim tomorrow through Tuesday, but will be arriving by ICE and the locations for Sunday and Monday look rather out of the way. Oh well. I'm usually in Mannheim once or twice a month, so I'm sure I'll make it to a hashpoint in 49 8 someday. --Prijks 18:36, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
User Page update
Oh my gosh, I love your new user page photo, and your map showing your graticules. How hard would it be for me to make a map like that for BC? -Robyn 15:57, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! The photo is a cropped version of my ridiculous attempt at writing "xkcd". I made the map by hand, drawing the graticule borders and every point using a Google Earth screenshot (of a list of my hashes) in Photoshop. I'm sure someone will be able to automate this. Manually drawing all of your BC hashes would be rather time-consuming.--ilpadre 16:11, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- I guessed that it was hand done. The texture of the map is attractive, too. -Robyn 16:49, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Pi
Why is there pi in the arctic ocean? Don't get me wrong, I support pi in any location, but why the arctic? Thepiguy 13:50, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- It's the only region in the world where I can write the number from -179 to 179 without touching any landmass. But I actually did it to take out some of the dullness of creating the graticules. --ilpadre 14:32, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
