Three Geohashing Achievement Icons that can be earned.

As well as having the pure and genuine ecstacy of having reached a Geohash, many Geohashers like to complement those feelings with the joy of having won an achievement. There are many different kinds of achievements, ranging from very easy to statistically impossible.

It is recommended that you take photographic proof to prove your achievement. This is, however, only important for proving to the community that you are an accomplished Geohasher and for many personal satisfaction is enough. Achievements are divided into three subsections. One section is for the comedic achievements, not very attainable and very unlikely anyone will do it, but still an achievement none-the-less. All other Achievements can be split into two groups based on the number of people that can attain the Geohash; "I'm Better Than You" Achievements and Basic Geohash Achievements.

Basic Geohash Achievements

Land Geohash

Everyone can get a Basic Geohash Achievement if you fulfill the necessary criteria and supply the necessary proof. Some of these come with physical prizes also.

Basic: Basic

• Air Geohash -- To geohash while in the air.
• Land Geohash -- For getting to a geohash on land
  • Underground Geohash -- Being underground
• Water Geohash -- Probably requires a boat
  • Underwater Geohash -- combines Water Geohash with Underground Geohash. Probably requires scuba gear, or really large lung capacity

Basic: Where

• Border geohash -- Crossing frontier to reach meet
• First Geohasher Geohash -- Earliest arrival
• Golf Geohash -- Achievable when the geohash falls in a golf course, and you cause a golf ball to land at the geohash point. (This doubles as an activity, and also as a great cover story for why you're wandering near the geohash -- "we lost a ball over here!".) Probably some sort of scoring-system should be worked out.
• Pub Geohash -- Having a pint with your geohash
• No Trespassing Geohash -- Failing due to it being private property or a restricted area.
• Ambassador Geohash -- Obtaining permission from a property owner or institution to access what would otherwise be a no trespassing geohash.
• Hash Collision -- Find an already existing geocache at a geohash.
• Freeway Geohash -- Drove quickly through the geohash because it was on a freeway

• Bicycle Geohash -- Going by bike
• Birthday Geohash -- Celebrating your birthday at the geohash
• Geoflashing -- AKA birthday suit geohash.
• GeoSquishy Geohash -- Various geoSquishy related achievements
• Geotrash Geohash -- Respect the Geohash point and pick up litter
• Midnight Geohash -- Visit the hash at midnight. <30W: Old day's hash, >30W: Hash announced for the new day. May be combined with endurance.
• Migration Geohash -- Meet up with more than 50 people at the geohash
• Phonebooth Stuffing Geohash -- Fitting many geohashers into a phonebooth
• Picnic Geohash -- Have a picnic meal at the geohash
• Public Transport Geohash -- Taking only the bus, train, subway, or other mass transit
• Sex Geohash -- Get laid at the geohash
• Smoking Geohash -- Take the time to enjoy a [legal] smoke at the geohash. Bonus points if you do it politely enough to not have "an encounter" over it.
• Snowman Geohash -- Build a Snowman
• Sunrise Geohash -- Visit the hash at sunrise. <30W: Old day's hash, >30W: Hash announced for the new day. May be combined with endurance.
• Thumbs Up Geohash -- Hitchhiking
• Twister Geohash -- Playing twister or encountering a tornado or both
• Walk Geohash -- Walking all the way to the geohash

Basic: Challenge

Police Geohash

• Endurance Geohashing
• Globetrotters Geohash -- Visit coordinates on all continents
• Graticule Hopper -- visit hashes in 100 different graticules
• MacGyver Geohash -- where the geohash is reached in an improvised vehicle built especially for that hash. For example, an improvised raft to reach a water geohash.
• Maker Geohash -- where the geohash is reached in a vehicle built largely or entirely by the geohasher.
• "Mother Nature's Bitch" Geohash -- Don't reach coordinates because of Mother Nature
• "Mother Nature is my Bitch" Geohash -- Up a mountain, down a valley
• Multihash -- Visit more than one geohash on a given day.
• No Batteries Geohash -- Reach coordinates using compass and/or sextant.
• Police Geohash -- Encounter the police/park ranger/authority
• Restricted Area Geohash -- Area requires special clearance which you just happen to have.
• Speed Racer Geohash -- Where the Geohash is on a driveable road or field. Participants should actually drive through the hash at maximum possible (legal) speed before meeting nearby
• Time-Traveller Geohash -- Visit two geohashes on the same local time
• XKCD-100 -- travel 100+ miles to make an XKCD meetup (Saturday 4pm geohash)
• XKCD Centurion -- Make 100 XKCD meetups (Saturday 4pm geohashes)

"I'm Better than You" Achievements

MNIMB Geohash

"I'm Better than you" Achievements are the kind of achievement that only belongs to the best, that is, they have been to the highest mountain or the deepest cave, the coldest lake or the hottest desert to get a Geohash. Many of these require a level of extreme toughness (eg, highest), however, a handful of these take into account the story of how you got to the Geohash (eg, Sexiest). One each page there is a high score table, and if you're brave enough, it may finally be a way to immortalise that internet alias you use.

NOTE: It is possible to achieve a "best of all the rest" geohash achievement for a particular date, only to be dethroned at a later time, when someone older/younger/taller/etc. takes the award. That's ok, you get to keep your achievement for that time. Just like Babe Ruth had the HR record, even though it's been broken, since then.

Comedic Achievements

Couch Potato Geohash

• Couch Potato Geohash -- Location is at your home
• Cubicle Geohash -- Location is at your office
• Velociraptor Geohash -- Being attacked by raptors
• Formal Attire Geohash -- Going to your Geohash in formal attire!
• Strip Club Geohash -- Location is at a stripbar
• Underpants Geohash -- Step 1: arrive at location; step 3: Profits! (Step 2 will be left as an exercise to the reader.)
• Circus Geohash -- Displaying any type of circus skill at a geohash.
• Coffin Potato Achievement -- Your coffin being located at the hash.
• Origin Geohash -- This can be achieved by visiting the geohash in the graticule you were born in for the day on which you were born. Which would be pretty crazy.
• Drag-Along Geohash -- This can be achieved by introducing a friend to geohashing.
• Déjà Vu Geohash -- You visit a geohash and have proof you were there on a previous day.

Consolation Prizes

In the spirit of No Trespasing or MNB (both re-listed below) so that when you don't reach the correct location, you can say to yourself, "at least I get a ribbon for this!" To earn these ribbons you must get out there and make the attempt, right up to the point where you cannot go on. It is not enough, for example, to look at the terrain contours in Google Maps and declare the grade impassable.

• Blinded by Science -- You travel to the wrong point because of mucking up the technology.
• Cliffs of Despair -- Terrain too steep to continue
• It's a Kitty! -- You forget about the geohash because you become distracted (as by finding a cute kitten.)
• "Mother Nature's Bitch" Geohash -- Fail because of Mother Nature
• My Kingdom for a Boat -- Your quest was ended by an unexpected body of water.
• Nanny -- You have to break off a quest to stay with a quitter.
• No Trespassing Geohash -- Forced to turn back because of signs forbidding access
• Prize Poultry -- Chickened out.
• Trail of Blood -- You or a member of your party is injured too badly to continue.
• Train Wreck -- You fail to reach the meet because of a transportation failure.

Proof

To win any of the above achievements, you must have photographic evidence. This photo must include:

1. You! (The Stupid Grin^tm is optional.)

2. Something displaying the date

3. A Geosync device showing your location or alternatively

Something in the photo that proves your location.
