Cambridge, United Kingdom/2012

From Geohashing

In 2012, the Cambridge graticule saw twenty-one expeditions, mostly concentrated in August and September. In addition, these expeditions were undertaken by six different geohashers. This is a very pleasant increase from the nine expeditions by two hashers the previous year! Cambridge remains one of the UK's most active graticules.

September 2012 saw this graticule's highest-ever number of expeditions, with 11 (and one retro-expedition!), all successful.

  • 26 September 2012 (Weds): In a field just outside Elmswell, Suffolk, a few metres off a footpath. Benjw took a train there from Cambridge in the afternoon.
  • 25 September 2012 (Tue): A field 300 metres from Cambridge University's radio telescope control building, where Benjw had to go for work. He took a stroll into the field after that, before going on to the Northampton hashpoint in Great Eversden.
  • 19 September 2012 (Wed): A residential street in Hunstanton, on the north-west Norfolk coast. Benjw enjoyed a train- and bus-ride and a walk in the sun by the sea.
  • 18 September 2012 (Tue): The driveway/back garden of 4 Speedwell Close, Cherry Hinton. Benjw was recovering from yesterday's expedition (i.e. having a nap) this afternoon, but made it at 23:51, after an evening commitment.
  • 17 September 2012 (Mon): In a field south of Stoke Ferry, near Downham Market. Benjw made a humungous 126.5 km bicycle geohash from Cambridge, and has now vowed never to get on a bike again.
  • 15 September 2012 (Sat): In pretty much a repeat of Wednesday's outing, Benjw cycled over to the hashpoint at the edge of a sunny field north of Wentworth, and was there for a 4pm Saturday meetup of one person.
  • 10 September 2012 (Mon): In a potato field outside Littleport, north of Ely. Benjw went in the late afternoon, in between running shopping errands.
  • 9 September 2012 (Sun): The edge of a field between Six Mile Bottom and Brinkley, southwest of Newmarket. Benjw visited just after 8pm, as it was getting rather dark.
  • 7 September 2012 (Fri): In a field outside Burwell, northeast of Cambridge. Benjw visited at 10:45pm and admired the moon and stars for a while.
  • 6 September 2012 (Thu) (retrohash): Benjw was too busy on the correct day, but managed to visit this point on Sunday evening on the way home from Sunday's hash only two miles away.
