About Me
I'm a physics student from Heidelberg, Germany and currently working on my diploma thesis. I will visit hashpoints reachable by bike or foot and sometimes those reachable by train. I don't own a GPS yet, so I navigate by maps and rely on satellite/aerial imagery (or, if the coordinates are in a forest, topographic maps) to find the exact spot. That works most of the time, but occasionally leads to extensive searches or user errors if the imagery or map is outdated.
Future Plans
Current status/plans: Currently no internet access at home. Preparing for 2009-11-04 49 8, will probably walk there after work.
Graticules to Conquer
- 50,9: My arch enemy. I'm there about once every month and already missed several great hashpoints due to time constraints, Mother Nature (darkness, massive snowfall) or departing just one day too soon.
Achievements to Get
It's always nice to win an achievement along with a successful expedition. For me, some are more desirable than others.
Walk to as many hashpoints as possible and beat the current distance record. For a complete list of all my walk hashes (successful or not), see Walk Geohashes.
Submit more pictures for the Calendar Girl Achievement.
Send more hashcards.
Things to Do at Hashpoints
- Combine geohashing with guerilla gardening.
- Revisit old hashpoints and document how the place changed (the above point makes revisiting particularly interesting).
- Clean up the hashpoint area.
- Leave a hashtag.
- Leave a hashmark big and durable enough that it can be seen from space. Then wait for the next Google Earth imagery update.
