+ | :Hi! The two important pieces of equiment for Geohashing are a means of transportation and a device to receive GPS signals. You do not need a dedicated GPS receiver, most modern phones can receive GPS signals. If you do not own a phone, perhaps ask your parents if they would like to join you on an expedition, and use one of their phones to find the coordinates.
+ | :Solving the transportation problem depends on the day's specific Geohash you are trying to reach. Geohashes are not always reachable, e.g. if they are far away or in someone else's house. Waiting for a Geohash in walking distance might require a lot of patience, but at least then it will pay off since you don't need a vehicle to reach it. For Geohashes that are farther away, I often use a bicycle (I know you said no equipment so that probably means no bike) and/or public transport. Maybe your parents know what kind of public transport is available near you, or perhaps they have different ideas on how to reach the destination. --Fippe (talk) 17:55, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

+ | Hint: note that Sea to Sky Air (http://www.seatoskyair.ca/) is based in Squamish (very close by) and does private flights, where you get to fly the plane, for reasonable prices. + | :Thanks for referring me here Srs0 -- I took a look but I don't think this would make that much sense for me alone; I don't have a car so it would be difficult for me to get to Squamish, and then the next day (the 11th) I'm flying out of Seattle to go to Chicago for the weekend. So it would be pretty hectic. I may call that company up and at least see if they're available tomorrow though, so folks in general know if there's a chance. I can imagine them being booked a long way in advance... -- OtherJack (talk) 17:42, 9 July 2014 (EDT) from Seattle
+ | |||
+ | ::OK, I checked with them -- they are actually quite free and it would only be about $100-$150 per person, but there would have to be *two* people - it could not just be me. So any locals up for it? I suppose I'd also need some way of actually getting to up Squamish without my own car, so that would be good anyway. Car rental may work in a pinch too. -- OtherJack (talk) 18:21, 9 July 2014 (EDT)

+ | UPDATE: Rex and I are going to try and do this in the afternoon if he can get off work! Which he thinks there's a decent chance of. Stay tuned. -- OtherJack (talk) 00:39, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
+ | :Best of luck to you! I prefer my geohashes on solid ground - which in this case looks to be at a 45 degree angle. --Thomcat (talk) 01:30, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
+ | ::Actually even steeper... according to the terrain layer in Google maps it rises nearly 300m in just 200m horizontal. Arctan(280/200) is around 54 degrees, basically a cliff. This steepness continues for considerably longer than 200m, that was just the scale on the map... -- OtherJack (talk) 01:46, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
+ | :::Zowie! I just used Google's new Distance Measurement tool - this hashpoint is 161.34 mi (259.65 km) as the crow flies - and the crow flies right through Point Roberts. --Thomcat (talk) 09:07, 10 July 2014 (EDT)

+ | Second update: Rex can skip work, so we are going to try it! I am still not 100% sure the company can do it at the time we'd get there (late afternoon), but it sure seemed like it yesterday - I hope to raise them on the phone soon and actually speak to them again... -- OtherJack (talk) 11:38, 10 July 2014 (EDT)

− | I | + | :Robyn and I are not downhill skiers, and don't want to spend $60 each just to probably be kicked off the mountain for not having skis. If the provisional travel plans hold, we should reach Vancouver on Sep 15, by train from Seattle (we will have to leave the car on that side of the border). −
− | + | The alternatives appear to be: either near Horne Lake in Spider Lake Provincial Park in the Port Alberni graticule (involves ferry + lot of driving), a hike in Sasquatch Provincial Park in the Chilliwack graticule (involves bushwacking + lot of driving), or just outside the Naval Air Station on Whitdbey Island in the Bellingham graticule (involves border hash + lot of driving). Hello?
Is anyone here? Planning on geohashing but I'm younger (13) and currently do not have any equipment. Loma Mincrft (talk) 04:59, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi!
- Solving the transportation problem depends on the day's specific Geohash you are trying to reach.

2016-08-27 48 -123 Easy waterhash in Beaver lake, would like to make this a saturday meetup hash. I will bring my canoe (it is red) and be ready at 1500 at hamsterly beach. it is quite close to shore so we could even swim... if you go the night befor you can get the vancover hash on friday just of the tswassen ferry terminal. I will drive to victoria saturday in the morning sometime, so could even offer a ride... Wijnland (talk) 19:27, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Globalhash in the Vancouver graticule! Not near a road, but you crazy guys don't need one anyway. Danatar (talk) 12:13, 9 July 2014 (EDT)
Seconded wholeheartedly! Go for it, you crazy Vancouverites! I wish I wasn't 9 times zones away! -Srs0 (talk) 16:16, 9 July 2014 (EDT)
Hint: note that Sea to Sky Air (http://www.seatoskyair.ca/) is based in Squamish (very close by) and does private flights, where you get to fly the plane, for reasonable prices. First aerial globalhash? I absolutely would if I was in the area... -Srs0 (talk) 16:19, 9 July 2014 (EDT)
- Thanks for referring me here Srs0 -- I took a look but I don't think this would make that much sense for me alone; I don't have a car so it would be difficult for me to get to Squamish, and then the next day (the 11th) I'm flying out of Seattle to go to Chicago for the weekend. So it would be pretty hectic. I may call that company up and at least see if they're available tomorrow though, so folks in general know if there's a chance. I can imagine them being booked a long way in advance... -- OtherJack (talk) 17:42, 9 July 2014 (EDT) from Seattle
- OK, I checked with them -- they are actually quite free and it would only be about $100-$150 per person, but there would have to be *two* people - it could not just be me. So any locals up for it? I suppose I'd also need some way of actually getting to up Squamish without my own car, so that would be good anyway. Car rental may work in a pinch too. -- OtherJack (talk) 18:21, 9 July 2014 (EDT)
UPDATE: Rex and I are going to try and do this in the afternoon if he can get off work! Which he thinks there's a decent chance of. Stay tuned. -- OtherJack (talk) 00:39, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
- Best of luck to you! I prefer my geohashes on solid ground - which in this case looks to be at a 45 degree angle. --Thomcat (talk) 01:30, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
- Actually even steeper... according to the terrain layer in Google maps it rises nearly 300m in just 200m horizontal. Arctan(280/200) is around 54 degrees, basically a cliff. This steepness continues for considerably longer than 200m, that was just the scale on the map... -- OtherJack (talk) 01:46, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
Second update: Rex can skip work, so we are going to try it! I am still not 100% sure the company can do it at the time we'd get there (late afternoon), but it sure seemed like it yesterday - I hope to raise them on the phone soon and actually speak to them again... -- OtherJack (talk) 11:38, 10 July 2014 (EDT)
Third update: We did it! Jack's GPS said we got within 32 feet, and mine said much the same. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS. Details and writeup to follow. --Rex Wolf (talk) 20:14, 10 July 2014 (EDT)

Globalhash just past Kamloops tomorrow in easy reachable location!!! Who is up. Wijnland (talk) 16:59, 28 December 2013 (EST)
- I could be, since I noticed that yesterday myself. But I'm having trouble talking myself into going over the Coquihalla in my car, which isn't well-equipped for it. Not to mention the time to get up and then come back. Rex Wolf (talk) 17:03, 28 December 2013 (EST)
- My current plan will take me past the geohashes for Vancouver (Squamish) and cache creek as well (Juniper beach, just of the hwy 1). But I will likely continue on to Prince George to visit some friends (being halfway already) so that would be an issue taking people along.... Wijnland (talk) 20:57, 28 December 2013 (EST)

The 30th AND the 31st have accessible geohashes. 30th: in North Vancouver (well, it might be in somebody's backyard, looking on street view shows a fence buried in all those trees around the point); 31st: just beside a road in squamish. Rhonda (talk) 10:17, 29 March 2013 (EDT)

2012-12-29 49 -123 ski hash
Today's hashpoint appears to be on one of the Grouse Mountain ski runs. I'm not in Vancouver, so I think somebody else who skis should go get this one! -- Rhonda 10:22, 29 December 2012 (EST)
- Robyn and I are not downhill skiers, and don't want to spend $60 each just to probably be kicked off the mountain for not having skis. Also, it is on a black run, and a few days ago a friend of ours broke her leg on the first day skiing this season, so I am a bit sensitive to the dangers of doing a black run on my first day skiing in about 15 years. ---Wade 10:58, 29 December 2012 (EST)
2012-11-21 49 -123 Gas Hash
I don't think I will have time today after work to go there, but I feel compelled to point out that today's hash point is at a gas station off highway 99 just south of the tunnel. For anyone willing to drive to a geohash, it is very accessible, if a little boring. It is even bus accessible. --- Wade 15:31, 21 November 2012 (EST)
I did spot this one, I would go by bike if not for the tunnel. It does seem pointless to just drive down there, so I am still in doubt. If anyone wants a ride or do a quick meetup tonight I am willing to go Wijnland 15:52, 21 November 2012 (EST)

28/29 April
I will plan some EPIC geohashing camping weekend, either in Whistler (Duffey lake) (and try for Brandywine on Saturday) or maybe Chilliwack (along coquihalla hwy). The Vancouver hashes also seem feasible (Saturday meetup will require a boat). Anyone up for a meetup somewhere? I would love to get my first true xkcd Saturday meetup :-) Wijnland 13:00, 27 April 2012 (EDT)
3 April
Anyone up for some snowshoeing? Probably have to pay the entry fee for the snowshoe area because the cypress trails will be the easiest way to get close to the point. I'm thinking of going up after work. Sunset is 7:45. -- Rhonda 10:23, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
- last snowshoe tickets are sold at 17.30 so we will have to be there before that. I am thinking about it, but time\work is an issue... Wijnland 13:22, 3 April 2012 (EDT)

todays seems easy (just of 57 near ross park). I will bike over there tonight (around 19.00\20.00) maybe trying for a TRON archievement. does anyone want to battle me? Wijnland 13:20, 7 March 2012 (EST)
03 March Whistler
The Saturday meetup in Whistler is very close to Pemberton and with less than 400m from the nearest road and large part of that being flat and open space, this should be the one. I was already planning to go up to whistler to ski and will be driving my van up there (we will leave around 06.15). Plenty of space left for rides, we can go ski first and hash after lunch, and have a true xkcd saturday meetup. or make a different plan. Wijnland 12:45, 2 March 2012 (EST)

A full month has passed already into this year and no geohashing activity in our graticule yet, shame on us (well, we haven't had much luck with the locations either) - Wijnland 16:46, 3 February 2012 (EST)
This Sunday there are two possible hash-locations nearby. I will attempt the Virgin graticule of Brandywine since I am in Whistler\Pemberton all weekend (anyone interested?) I am out skiing with friends so I hope I can squeeze this one in and drag them along with me. - Wijnland 16:46, 3 February 2012 (EST)
- The Vancouver hash this Sunday is close to Tswassen in some field, somebody should be able to reach this! (Wijnland)
- Best of luck with Brandywine on Sunday. Bring climbing ropes :-) If there are no crops active in that field then the Vancouver one could be achievable. If there are crops, then not. I may bike down there just to bike all the way there. Then probably take transit back because that's a long way from North Vancouver. -- Rhonda 21:28, 3 February 2012 (EST)
- I did not make it to the brandywine hash, (it was late and we all were to tired after a whole day of skiing) did not even attempt it. But I did make a puppet hash by sending my brother to the 2012-02-05 52 5 which was only a block away from his home!

- I'm working today, but I can go after work. should be able to reach the location in one hour, so I can be there around 18.00 (or a before that if I leave early) -- Wijnland 15:35, 2 December 2011 (EST)

Richmond Geohash with Relet and Lyx! Aiming for 17:00? -- user:thepiguy 11:12, 16 September 2011 (EDT)
15th - 20th September
Geohashers relet and lyx will finally make it to The Epic Graticule. We want to meet with locals. We're up for any kind of expedition or activity and would appreciate any kind of hospitality. If you'd like to meet / expediate / host / task with us, feel free to contact us in any way you can think of. Yours truly, (relet and) lyx 13:17, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
- Our current plans involve a pilgrimage all the way from San Francisco (where we shall try to install a memorial plaque at the comic's coordinates) to the Epic Graticule In The Far North. We're looking forward to meet all you crazy people on the way and of course in Vancouver! If the provisional travel plans hold, we should reach Vancouver on Sep 15, by train from Seattle (we will have to leave the car on that side of the border). We shall bring tent and sleeping bags (but no kayaks) and the spirit of adventure (well, that's a bit like carrying owls to Athens or thorny bushes to geohash coordinates, I guess). And we would very happily, gladly, immediately accept any offers of couch/floor/barn space where two friendly, fellow, low-maintenance geohashers could crash for a few days. (In exchange we will probably be able to offer reliquiae from the holy coordinates - how is that?) -- relet 14:18, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
- I have sent a series of 0's and 1's to you email inbox! They may be of interest to you! -- user:thepiguy 16:42, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
- Wow, that's awesome! Have a good time in Vancouver! I wish that I was there to join in, but I'm unfortunately on the other side of the country now. Good luck with the epic graticule, and may the coordinates be generous! -Srs0 12:03, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
- We have a guest room that you would be welcome to use, and I will try to hunt down extra bicycles if you tell us how big you are, but there is a possibility that I will be away at work, as usual. - Robyn
- I have sent a series of 0's and 1's to you email inbox! They may be of interest to you! -- user:thepiguy 16:42, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
- Wow, thank you all soo much for the offers. Robyn, thepiguy outbid you by offering an apartment, and we've gladly accepted. Can't say the Vancouverites are not the most hospitable people in the hashosphere, all of you! :D
- We have earmarked the weekend for expeditioning (and are available for more spontaneous geohashing any other day between Sep 15 and 20, if the Algorithm so decides) on the off chance that you are not riding wacky bicycles in remote swampy graticules. If that works out, should we try to plan a bigger meet-up? :] -- relet 03:07, 1 August 2011 (EDT)
28 August 2011
Also accessible, sort of. It's in someone's yard, in the Musqueam reserve. It's on.
27 August 2011
It's doable. It's Saturday. Has Vancouver forgotten how to geohash? Let's find out.
August 4-7 2011
I was thinking the peeron app was broken and just kept serving the same location, but then I looked more closely and realized that while every point is in untracked wilderness way up some inlet on the Sunshine Coast, they were all in different patches of untracked wilderness, up different but identical-looking inlets. It's time to start aerohashing in earnest.
Another option this weekend would be to try Victoria, if you don't mind ferry rides. Lots of island hashes. (Alas, I'm heading to Prince Rupert for work permanently, so not for me this weekend.) - Wmcduff 01:51, 6 August 2011 (EDT)
July 20-27 2011
This would have been the right week to do an all-kayak endurance hash. A lousy week for quick after-work hashes, though.
Sunday, 2011-07-17 49 -122
After checking the elevation and nearby trails, I thought this would be an epic camping geohash. No bushwhacking required! Looking at photos of the ponds, they look fairly clear and rocky (not muddy or marsh). I even found a tracklog for the hike.[2] I was ready to start packing for the drive down until I checked the weather forecast. Taking into account the higher elevation, it sounds like I'd have to expect near-zero overnight, and possibly rain. Bleh. --Juv

I will be in the area. The street number is 6407 and they had a garage sale last weekend. I could not see a fence. --Juventas 10:57, 28 May 2011 (EDT)

Geohashing Day on Saturday
Who else is contemplating going? Do we have a backup plan for if the coordinates are unreachable? - Elbie 13:09, 19 May 2011 (EDT)
Think about previous Geohashing Day coords - they count on Geohashing Day. (We've got two accessible ones down here in Oregon.) Jiml 19:03, 19 May 2011 (EDT)
I'm planning on going. We'll know the coordinates on Friday morning and can decide then on our options. -Robyn 02:54, 20 May 2011 (EDT)
Bad luck to both the Vancouver and Toronto graticules (both are in water). Too bad. I'm personally considering a retrohash to the 2009 coordinates, as the 2010 coordinates are also in water in Toronto. Good luck to you Vancouver residents with your plans! I miss being able to join you. -Srs0 09:46, 20 May 2011 (EDT)
Looks like it will be a Pitt River kayak geohash in 2011-05-21 49 -122 . I'm not trying to decide for everyone, here. if anyone has a better suggestion, I'll happily try it. - Robyn
The alternatives appear to be: either near Horne Lake in Spider Lake Provincial Park in the Port Alberni graticule (involves ferry + lot of driving), a hike in Sasquatch Provincial Park in the Chilliwack graticule (involves bushwacking + lot of driving), or just outside the Naval Air Station on Whitdbey Island in the Bellingham graticule (involves border hash + lot of driving). I still don't have a border hash so I would be up for that last one. I can do the river hash, though. - Elbie 11:17, 20 May 2011 (EDT)
- Thanks. Pitt River is still my favourite. Wade said Bellingham was on the air base, so I didn't look closer. I'll see if anyone else weighs in. -Robyn 11:41, 20 May 2011 (EDT)
- I wish my current graticule were as accessible as Vancouver. My best bet at the moment appears to be at around 5500m in altitude just over the border into Tibet. Look like I'll be taking a few pity geoahshing shots tomorrow. -- user:thepiguy 12:27, 20 May 2011 (EDT)
- Where the hell are you? You still have to pretend to try that geohash, even if only by walking a few steps in the right direction, just so you can write it up, with pictures of the distant mountains. -Robyn 12:38, 20 May 2011 (EDT)

We seem to have a choice between:
- A fairly boring, probably "no trespassing" hash in Surrey.
- A forest geohash off Foley Creek Forest Service Road (off Chilliwack Lake Road) in Chilliwack.
- Not geohashing.
Opinions?
Abbotsford street corner!
OK, so this looks really doable. It's on the corner of Old Clayborn Road and Beverly Crescent in Abbotsford. Just down the street from a church (close enough for a Holy Hash?) A nice powerful picnic field across the street.
Canada Day!
It is astoundingly accessible - in Kitsilano, on a street corner. I would think it had to be north there, to count as Kits. I'd call that Dunbar. And I'm looking for the closest place for a picnic. -Robyn 16:00, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, ok, maybe south of Kits. I'm a little hazy on the boundaries of neighbourhoods, despite having lived near there for years while attending UBC. -- Rhonda 16:29, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
2010-06-05 (Sea To Sky)
2010-06-04 (Burnaby Mountain)
May be accessible, but with some serious bushwhacking. Surrey graticule.
Geohashing Day/Mouseover Day
What are we going to do? Last year's basic "be ready to give a really good try for anything, but have a good back-up in mind" should probably apply. Geohashing Day being right after Mouseover Day suggests attempting a camping/consecutive geohash achievement. Anyone have any ideas about costumes, special themes, ways to generate an awesome alternate (average everyone's birthdays?) We should definitely have a massive picnic somewhere, and the alternate should involve multiple means of transportation.
- Totally up for a camping hash and then attempting the second hash on first light. --Yangman 17:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Discussion on this had already started on its own page as I wrote it. Copied Yangman's comment there. -Robyn 17:20, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
2010-05-20
One could theoretically go to Gabriola today, stay overnight in the campground, and be already for the alternate tomorrow. Theoretically.
- Yes, but then how would you find out if the day's actual co-ordinates are reachable? Not that I'm saying you shouldn't... -- Rhonda 00:57, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
2010-05-17 (Bowen Island)
It's on a road on Bowen Island. I have a feeling that if I don't go, the algorithm will punish us on Geohashing Day. -Robyn 16:26, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- So did you go? -- Rhonda 00:57, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
2010-05-15 (Langley)
Actually in the Surrey graticule, but I know you look here.
2010-05-09 (West Van)
West Vancouver. Armoury?
You YVR folks might be able to do your "Tale of two hashes", finally! Jiml 18:48, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
2010-05-08 (Richmond)
Light industrial area parking lot.
2010-05-03 (Burnaby)
Just off Royal Oak Ave, in a cemetery in Burnaby, near Deer Lake Park.
2010-05-02 (North Vancouver)
Just off Rice Lake Road, in the Lynn Canyon Park area.
2010-04-17 (Port Coquitlam)
Will be hitting this hash point on our way to our Golden Ears camping trip late Saturday morning or around noon. -Yangman 15:04, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
7 April
Bummer, today was reachable up in Squamish, and that nasty work thing prevented me from heading up there for a nice walk in the forest (or is it snow now?) Why can't we get the good locations on the weekends? --Wade 05:11, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
2 April
Anyone interested? Looks like it actually falls on a path under the hydro line. -Juventas
- Is there anywhere safe to stop and get out of the car? -- user:thepiguy 16:54, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- Oh look, it would seem there's a pullout right by the geohash, and somewhere safe to turn around too. Are you going? 3 hours in a car in the pouring rain is nothing for the chance to meet a Juventas! -- user:thepiguy 17:11, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Yeah ill be there at 2, just trying to find something to stay dry in. Juv
29 March
In somebody's back yard in Ladner. It's my hashiversary, but I could probably only spare about an hour and a half tonight -- and that would be after 7. Somebody with a car interested? - Elbie 20:24, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
2010-03-28 (sunday) globalhash
The globalhash is in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho graticule, only 800 km from Vancouver! Go Vancouver! - Danatar 08:00, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, Google maps says it is an 8 hour drive (I'm going to guess 10 to allow for problems), and what seems to be a 2 hour hike (short distance, but straight up a mountain) from the road. Assuming the last "unnamed road" actually exists. It is on the map, but the satellite view doesn't make it look like much of a road. Next, I see where the closest GA airport is. The hash point itself seems very accessible by helicopter, if only I knew someone with one of those. --Wade 17:12, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Real (tentative) plans are in progress over on the Expedition Page Vancouverites or Idahoians join in there! If we leave, we'll have to leave soon. Anyone up for spending their weekend and week's pay on a cool globalhash? Act now! --Wade 18:44, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Is it a good thing or a bad thing to be the first geohashers to charter a helicopter? We would be, wouldn't we? -Robyn 20:06, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
23 March
I just found out I get to stay home today and not go to work in Saskatchewan. That means an alternate birthday geohash. -Robyn 17:49, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
15 March
It's in a field, on Anvil Island. I so don't want to paddle to Anvil Island today. It sort of looks like the area where the Dharma Initiative barracks are in Lost. So therefore my official excuse is "sonic security fence." -Robyn
- I was thinking this morning, if it were summer and not a weekday, I'd go for it. But it's not. -- Rhonda 01:11, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
21 February
It's on what looks like a parking area for airplanes. Robyn, think this can be done? - Elbie 19:25, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not Robyn, but I doubt that it will be possible to get access there, without having a very uncomfortable conversation with the RCMP. The Chilliwack graticule seems achievable, but may involve a long hike. --Wade 02:56, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, jet parking? During the olympics? Well, any other time you'd at least get airport security involved, but during the olympics you'd probably be held, searched and interrogated as if you were a terrorist. I mean, they closed the seabus for hours during rush hour and blew up somebody's new fishing rod that he'd forgotten in the terminal FFS. -- Rhonda 07:06, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- The pilots and owners of the airplanes parked either side of that geohash have to go through three layers of security and a special Olympic body search that leaves less to the imagination than do spandex skating suits in order to get to that geohash. I couldn't even get permission to fly over it. We'd probably be questioned for meeting outside the airport fence. -- Robyn (using Wade's computer)

If only it were summer...

Weather & Visibility Issued 09:30 PM PST 12 February 2010 Tonight and Saturday: Periods of rain ending late overnight. Rain beginning near noon Saturday.
And I have no car. -- Rhonda 07:30, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Robyn and I have guests, so we can't go off kayaking or building our own rafts in situ. Are condolences required because of the lack of car? --Wade 08:42, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- The old geohashingmobile has just been accepted by the scrap-it program. I'll have a new geohashingmobile at the end of the month! And it'll be even better on the logging roads! -- Rhonda 22:54, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Holy Hash in Squamish
It's accessible, but car required. - Elbie 18:13, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- What time would you want to go if I drove? -Robyn 18:35, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I can only do it in the morning. I'd have to be back on campus by 15:00, 16:00 at the latest. - Elbie 19:03, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Morning is good for me. I also want to get some pictures of the Halkomelem signs along that road, with all the 7s in the alphabet. Shall I pick you up at UBC at nine thirty? Where's the best spot to meet? -Robyn 19:14, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can do 9:30. Best pick-up spot would probably be the corner of Marine Drive and Agronomy Rd. - Elbie 19:41, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'll be there 9:30. Little gold car, personalized plates. -Robyn 03:58, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Started putting in plans at the page, 2010-02-07 49 -123; you're driving so you should probably fix my approximations. - Elbie 19:44, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm wondering why there is no planning for the globalhash going on, it's really near to your place. From Vancouver of all graticules I would expect to do a crazy expedition by plane or boat out to the ocean. - Danatar 11:10, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- chuckle* They're mad, but they're not _that_ mad. - wmcduff 16:44, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- Usually they _are_ that mad, I've met some of them...
- Hey... what are you implying? Thepiguy 01:45, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Usually they _are_ that mad, I've met some of them...
- I haven't checked global hashes since they started going wrong. If someone can give me a guaranteed, easy-to-check app, then I'll consider it. -Robyn 03:58, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- I use ekorren's tool to look up the coordinates and the globalhash coordinates are the correct ones: *click* for Vancouver - Danatar 15:54, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

When we have 100 geohashers in the graticule
When we have 100 geohashers in the graticule, we are so doing this. Party and games all the way to the geohash and all the way back. And no riding uphill! I'm sure we could get the captain to sail to and circle around a random set of coordinates. -Robyn 01:28, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Notable Dates
I propose moving all information pertaining to where to meet up if it has not been decided to the discussion page to keep the main page clean looking. --Nigma 15:37, 24 May 2008
I somewhat agree there. The problem is that not everybody checks the discussion page, so they won't necessarily see that. I'm thinking maybe just leaving the upcoming and most recent event or two on the main page and the discussion of them here? I'm going to try a few changes to aim towards something like that. --Srs0 23:20, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Our Record
Has there ever been a non-attended road-accessible geohash in this graticule? -Robyn 16:26, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, maybe not. But hey: According to this, you are now one point behind München. I know that your graticule is a lot more difficult to geohash in, but still, you Vancouveranians better do your best to stay ahead of us land rats here in 48 11, as has been the case for so long now! --Zb 17:15, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Nanaimo
We need a Nanaimo geohasher to get the low hanging fruit on the Vancouver Island side without having a two hour ferry ride. Anyone know anyone in Nanaimo they can recruit? -Robyn 19:13, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Hiking, anybody?
Would anybody like to join me for 2009-06-07 49 -122? I'm planning to bike to the dam, and then hike from there. It looks like a 2km hike. - Elbie 22:26, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Out of area visitor(s)
Because I am a lazy sack of crap, I didn't make it up here in the previously stated times. I have 5 vacation days yet to schedule for the rest of the year. I am out of town the week of Christmas and the weekends on either side. Other than that, however, I am open to using my vacation for something important, like geohashing and visiting crazy Vancouverites. Please use this area to discuss the potential dates. --aperfectring 23:23, 3 November 2009 (UTC) I just looked it up, and train tickets will be a mere $70 US, so I need someone from up there to help me organize this thing! --aperfectring 23:37, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
I will be out of town from the 16th to 22nd of November, but you are welcome and encouraged to come and stay here in November outside of that range. I can pick you up at the train station and stuff. I go back to work again in December. Also the Olympics suck. They are closing parks already.
- Robyn.

I think the land usage script needs its colour values tweaked! -- Rhonda 03:52, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. The problem is that Germany (where the script was designed for) has different colours for field/mountain vs city, but Vancouver and the parts of North America I looked at doesn't. So tweaking the colour values won't help with the way the script is now. See Talk:Land_usage. -Srs0 04:39, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Print-outs of Translink's bike maps
I just discovered that some of the printers at work support greyscale printing on 11 inch by 17 inch paper (tabloid). I've printed off copies of the Translink Bike Maps on this -- it's certainly more readable than printing on regular letter-sized paper! If anybody wants me to print off some tabloid-sized maps for them, let me know and I'll bring it along to whatever hash we're both at. - Elbie 02:30, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Extravaganza
Vancouver was nominated as a location for the Geohashing Day 2011 Extravaganza, but no one from the graticule voted? --Juventas 16:12, 6 February 2011 (EST)
- It's dark, and wet, and occasionally icy. The mountains are thick with snow, the ocean is maybe 4 degrees, it's not safe for may expeditions, so we're all kind of in limbo. Sorry. Talk to us in the spring. - Robyn
