WARNING: This user is one of our infamous bot lords. He maintains AperfectBot, the dumb ape that keeps the current events page up to date with the latest in geohashing expeditions. It also updates the expeditions lists on date pages, and makes expedition lists for users upon requests. He can often be heard muttering about the varied stupid behaviors the dumb ape periodically makes.

I have relocated to Portland, Oregon. I live very close to the western border of the graticule, so will likely go hashing in McMinnville, Oregon just about as much as Portland. I frequent the IRC channel as aperfectring, and apr.

When I May Attend

Workdays (weekdays, not including holidays and vacation) - So long as light holds out, I will make attempts which are near 45.5,-123 (within 5ish miles), and seem to be decently accessible. I will be making these attempts after work, so won't be free before 5PM, and may not be free before sunset at all. I take transit to work most days, so have limited mobility until I get home at 5:30ish.
Non-work weekdays - I will judge on a case-by-case basis. I'll try to be there at official meetup time, unless another one is scheduled.
Saturdays - I will do my best to make attempts for the official meetup time.
Sundays - Probably no geohashing, unless a very compelling location comes up.

I am maintaining the Notification program, notes here: User:Aperfectring/Notification

I am maintaining the bot which automates the creation of the list of upcoming geohashing expeditions, and user-specific expedition lists.

I came up with an idea about a website which will display a random geohashing picture. This now has its own page here: User:Aperfectring/Random_image_page. I haven't really been working on this, and probably won't take it any further.

A project with relet to make the pygeohashing library more complete and extensible. If you are interested in improving how this library works, and adding functionality to it, let relet or myself know!

Projects actually related to going geohashing

Complete a Bicycle geohash
Complete the minesweeper surrounding Portland. Halfway complete. I have the NE and all graticules to the S to complete yet.
Play as many PBGH games as practical! They are fun and awesome!
Displaced origin to Portland, Oregon [1]. It is about 2000ft (600m) from the nearest road, and that path has about 1100ft (335m) of elevation gain. If I were to decide to tackle it from the other direction, it is about 1mi (1.6km) to the (questionably accessible that time of year) road, and has about 1400ft (425m) of elevation loss. The cliff seems to average about a 50% grade along most of that gain/loss. The upper side has some bushwhacking to get to the cliff, the lower side looks to be built into the cliff, so may not have a place to pull off. It would be a truly epic geohashing expedition to reach it, but I definitely am not going to try to tackle this one alone, so I'll need to convince someone else to join me.

Questions

Q: Why did you have a lot of expeditions in Florida back in olden days?
A: I used to live there. In August/September of 2009 I moved to Oregon. In fact, I even have a geohash from the move in my list. Its the one in Colorado.

Q: What prompted you to move so far?
A: I firmly claim that it was completely geohashing related, and if reality doesn't agree, then it is reality that is lying to you.

Q: I like the bot(s) you have created, and wish to offer you <monetary or material reward>.
A: That's not a question. I didn't write these bots for gifts, and while the sentiment is appreciated, it is not necessary. I would prefer you use the <monetary or material reward> to somehow benefit the geohashing community.

Q: I like the bot(s) you have created, but would you add the ability to do <new functionality>?
A: The best place to ask for <new functionality> is on the bot's talk page. I will make comments on it there, and if I like it, I will add it to the TODO list.

Q: Why do you have an unhealthy hate of apes?
A: Ask that bloody dumb ape User:AperfectBot. I'm willing to bet the hate is mutual.

Q: You really seem to hate apes a lot, you know?
A: You would hate them too, if they tortured you as much as they do to me.

Q: Which came first, your hatred of apes or your hatred of AperfectBot?
A: Enough questions about this supposed hatred of apes! I only hate AperfectBot, and usually only when I am trying to teach it new tricks, or it crashed while I was at work.
