About Me
- I'm from Heidelberg, Germany.
- I stumbled upon geohashing in 2008, finally going on my first expedition on October 22nd when the coordinates fell close to my university.
- I soon discovered that (a) I knew practically nothing about the region I had already lived in for years and that geohashing is a fun way to discover the unknown and (b) getting to nearby hashpoints can make for a great running workout.
- I've since walked on roughly 1/3 of my expeditions for a total of 288.7 km. I've reached about as many hashpoints going by train, mostly if the coordinates led me to interesting places (farthest train expedition: Neu-Ulm). I've cycled to a few hashpoints and used a car for even fewer.

Achievements to Get
It's always nice to win an achievement along with a successful expedition. For me, some are more desirable than others.
- Walk to as many hashpoints as possible. For a complete list of all my walk hashes (successful or not), see here. (already earned: 17 times, failed: 5 times, cumulated distance: 275.7 km)
- Travel some distance to a hashpoint using the power of an animal. (not yet earned)
- Get a (nontrivial) regional or reverse regional achievement. (earned once, level 2)
- Get the A Tale of Two Hashes achievement. (not yet earned)
- Visit five adjacent graticules to get a Bingo.
Things to Do at Hashpoints
- Combine geohashing with guerilla gardening.
- Revisit old hashpoints and document how the place changed (the above point makes revisiting particularly interesting).
- Clean up the hashpoint area.
- Fly a kite at the hash.
- Leave a hashmark.
- Leave a hashmark big and durable enough that it can be seen from space. Then wait for the next Google Earth imagery update.

Wiki Stuff
I like drawing xkcd-ish images for achievement ribbons. See my gallery of achievement images. I keep looking out for newly created achievements that need a ribbon image, and for old images that could be improved.
To-Do List
- Write missing expedition reports!
- Properly categorize own pictures.
- Add yet unnamed graticules to the All Graticules list (constantly looking for remote or interesting graticules). Name the Antarctica graticules.
- Draw icon for Stacking achievement
Stencils
I recently discovered the art of stencils for easily reproducible hashmarks on wood and other biodegradable material to leave at the hashpoint. I left the first of these markers at the 2010-03-13 49 8 hashpoint, the second at 2010-04-03 49 10, the third at 2010-10-20 49 8.
Misc.
Categories created: Category:Abandoned, Category:Mud, Category:Sheep. I'll try to look though old and new photos to categorize them.
