About the New on the wiki announcements template
This template is designed to be displayed on the Main Page to highlight new developments on the wiki. It has two sections, one mainly to tell and one mainly to ask. These announcements should stay up for about a week, unless their relevance passes sooner.
The template can be added to a user or graticule page if you use that over the Main Page. Simply add {{New on the wiki}} to the desired page.
What's new on the wiki
This section includes new ways to waste time and to save time on the wiki. There's more to the wiki than posting pictures on the main page, and this is intended to be a more efficient way for users to find out what's new than hitting the "Recent changes" button every thirty minutes. Announcements include new tools for planning geohashes, monthly Most Active Graticule records, special events and wiki policy. Announcements about remarkable expeditions should generally go in the Hall of Amazingness, not here.
Now discussing
This section gives all users, not just those who happen to be on the geohashing IRC channel at the right moment, a chance to have their say on developing geowiki standards, qualifying for achievements, and planning special events. Particularly active discussion about a single expedition or geohasher might be linked here if the result of the discussion is likely to affect geohashers as a whole.

Announcements here are formatted, linked to pages that explain them, and ready to be placed in the template. Place suggestions that aren't yet fleshed out on the Talk page.

Old announcements can be browsed here after they have been deleted from the Main Page. Most recent are at the top.

- 2011-01-25 We attracted some attention over at thingiverse. Welcome fabbers!
- 2011-02-22 The current events bot will be down until further notice. APR's computer crashed today.
- 2010-12-03 The current events bot can now create expedition lists for graticules. Learn how to get this set up for yourself.
- 2010-07-13 We have new achievements. Try to get a Fly a kite achievement or a Juggernaut achievement!
- 2010-06-07 The images in the gallery now link to the expeditions. This required yet another change in the GalleryItem template. Read this (again)!
- 2011-01-10 The current events bot is periodically crashing, so the automatic expedition lists may occasionally be stale. APR is aware of the issue, and is trying to fix it.
- 2010-12-31 Note that Friday and Monday are NOT Dow Holidays. Coordinates for W30 for Monday and E30 for Tuesday won't be available/correct until 9:30AM EST on Monday. A number of the coordinate calculators don't understand this, though. The Wiki has been correct, and Peeron finally appears correct, but be careful for now.
- 2010-06-07 The gallery of recent expeditions has a new format. Please comment here, and get familiar with the new gallery code here. Have fun!
- 2010-07-27 The Small Hash Inquiry tool is back up.
- 2010-07-16 The APBot Notification daemon is working again. Thanks to APR.
- 2010-07-10 The APBot Notification daemon is currently not working. It is being worked on, however.
- 2010-06-05 The automatically generated expeditions lists on the Current events page and date pages are now being presented in a table.
- 2010-05-23 Geohashing Day 2010 is over. Read expedition reports for 2010-05-21 and for 2010-05-22, Mouseover Day.
- 2010-04-05 Automagickally generated markers for your expedition is just one of the many wonderful features of http://activegeohasher.com.
- 2010-04-21 Peeron's zooming in and out behaviour seems to have changed.
- 2010-03-05 The globalhash for 2010-03-07 is in the Baton Rouge graticule!
- 2010-02-21 There is now an image tagging page.
- 2010-02-16 ReCAPTCHA has been installed. Contact joannac, if there are any problems.
- 2010-01-24 Globalhash coordinates are now included on date pages and Current events.

- 2010-02-17 There is now a view random expedition image page.
- 2009-12-31 Scenic xkcd markers is the topic for the 2011 calendar. Unless we find a more scenic name.
- 2009-11-07 Study the geohashing Narrative chart in svg or png format.
- 2009-10-22 Posted achievement and A Tale of Two Hashes achievement are accepted as new achievements.
