About Me
I have been geohashing on and off, when I have time, since the first week of geohashing. Specifically, May 27, 2008 was my first geohash. I tend to geohash a lot more in the summer, when I have a smaller workload.
There are a few places that I consider to be my "home" graticules:
- Genève (46,6) is currently my home graticule, where I am hoping for an awesome restricted area geohash!
- Toronto (43,-79) was my primary home graticule for about a year for graduate studies. I am currently away for research purposes, but will be returning to Toronto at some point.
- Vancouver (49,-123) was where I spent most of my time for the first few years of geohashing, as a student at UBC.
- Calgary NW (51,-114) was where I spent most of my childhood (although I was not born there), and is a place that I occasionally visit to see my family.
- Würzburg (49,9) was my home in Germany, where I spent eight months (May to December 2009) as part of a co-operative education placement in Technische Physik at the Universität Würzburg. For those eight months, thepiguy and I had the pleasure of exploring Germany and other parts of Europe, using Würzburg as our base.
The time it takes me to complete an expedition write-up varies drastically. I often update the day of (or the day after) the expedition, but I have also been known to take several months, or even just under a year. However, I do get around to everything eventually.
I discovered XKCD through slashdot on December 11, 2006. Specifically, this article is the one that led me to XKCD (Map of the Internet IPv4 space).
I love photography, particularly when the subject is the natural world. Some of my favourite pictures that I've taken while geohashing can be seen here (no longer updated).
Upcoming Expeditions
- No immediate plans, but that doesn't mean that I won't be geohashing!
