33 / m / 51,13 About I live and work in Dresden, Germany (near 51.05, 13.78) since May 2014. Until April 2014 I lived and for a while studied or worked in Würzburg. From September 2009 to March 2013 I worked in Schweinfurt and visited many hashpoints while commuting. Since I have visited lots of hashpoints by now, I'm not visiting all reachable hashpoints any more. I will still go, a) if the hashpoint is very near, e.g. in walking distance; b) if the hashpoint is in cycling distance and the weather is okay; c) if I can meet people; d) if I'm in a foreign country or in a different graticule; e) if unusual achievements are waiting, e.g. regional geohash or hashiversary; f) if there is something special at the hashpoint, landscape- or sightseeing-wise. I might also visit hashpoints near Heidelberg in my origin graticule Mannheim, Germany (49, 8). My GPS receivers are a Magellan Triton 500 (has a map, coordinates in DD.DDDDD° format, also shows distance/accuracy/..., but eats lots of batteries) and a Holux M-241 (no map, coordinates in DD°mm'ss.ss" format, logs the position faithfully every 5/10/... seconds, eats only small amount of batteries). More About Earlier, when I didn't have a GPS, I relied on Google Maps, the Bavarian Land Survey Office's maps (with topographical information) and OpenStreetMap.org to find the hashpoints. This meant that whenever there was no special landmark (intersection, house...) at the hashpoint, I could only guess where the hashpoint was. If the hashpoint was e.g. in a forest 200 m from a track, I considered the coordinates reached after 200 large steps into the underbrush. Although I always try to get to the exact spot, if the hashpoint is in a field with crops or in a very dirty/wet place without any obstacle between me and the hashpoint, I am satisfied at the edge of that area. These are my hashscots. To the left is Scott(y). He's a Hashhog (Erinaceus terramigrans) and visits as many hashpoints as possible with me. On the right side you can see Polly (very creative name, I know) the Pirate PARRRot (or Parrot Pirate?). Like every true pirate Polly only visits waterhashes, but a rich hashpoint near the coast might be plundered as well. Danatar's bike This is my current bike. I had to get it after the one before it was stolen. On the right side is my car. It needs wider and better tracks, but it is faster, stronger and more comfortable than my bike and burns fuel instead of fat calories. I use it to go to far away places, so some of my expeditions consist of a detour on the way. With 5 melted polar caps per 100 km, I nontheless try to minimize those detours. This is my second bike. It was much nicer to ride than the old one and a lot smoother. Sadly it was stolen during the weekend after 2014-08-01 51 13. To the right is my first bike, the heavy charger. It is heavy (no carbonbreds in his lineage), almost unstoppable (changing the brakes does not change anything) and carried me wherever I had the strength to take it. It is not born for far and fast journeys, more for the rocky wilderness. Unfortunately, I'm not born for the rocky wilderness, so its usual terrain are paved roads, downhill whenever possible. Nontheless, it has been my trusted steed for about 15 years before being replaced by "something young and easier to ride". It's an unfair world after all.
